Learning Counts @ SECO

Earn college credit for knowledge you already have!

STEP 1: Identify your areas of knowledge

Enroll in a LearningCounts portfolio development course. This course is FREE for military spouses who qualify for the SECO program. The course will guide you through the process of identifying your skills and areas of expertise that may be worth college credit. Click here for a free online tool that will help you determine if you have skills that could potentially be worth college credit.

STEP 2: Create your Learning Portfolio

Armed with the process and insights you gain in the portfolio development course, you will create an online Learning Portfolio that aligns your expertise to a specific college course.

You have 6 months from the day your course begins to submit your first Learning Portfolio. Additional portfolios can be completed at a later date.

STEP 3: Submit your Learning Portfolio for college credit

Your portfolio will be assessed by a college professor. You will find out within 3 weeks if your portfolio has been approved for a credit recommendation.*

STEP 4: Take your LearningCounts credit recommendation to your college/university

You can order a LearningCounts transcript ($15) listing the credit recommendations you receive. Many colleges and universities accept LearningCounts credit recommendations.

Contact a SECO Career Counselor at 800-342-9647 to learn more or to sign up. You can also contact the LearningCounts College Credit Specialist at 312-499-2365.

*If you are already enrolled in a university or college, check with your adviser to make sure credits you earn through LearningCounts will fit in to your degree plan.
